When Apple says no

iPad Repair When Apple Says No

Apple calls iPads "sealed units" and almost always pushes customers towards buying new. We actually repair them — screens, batteries, charging ports, board-level work. A proper iPad specialist at our Banks workshop in Southport.

What Apple actually offers — and what they don't

Take an iPad into an Apple Store with almost any meaningful fault and you'll be quoted for a replacement device, not a repair. Apple categorises iPads as "sealed units" — technically repairable, but not economically viable inside Apple's retail model. They'd rather sell you a refurb at a discount than fix yours.

For many customers, that means either paying hundreds of pounds for a replacement they don't want, or binning a perfectly usable device because of a cracked screen, a worn battery, or a charging port that's stopped working. Independent repair is usually the only practical alternative — and iPad repair is one of our core specialisms.

What we repair on iPads

Screens

Full iPad screen replacement using our lift-proof Tesa tape + 3M primer technique. Covers standard iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro across all generations and display types (LCD, ProMotion, mini-LED, Tandem OLED).

Batteries

iPad battery replacement for all product lines. Most iPads tolerate a battery swap well — the trick is precise disassembly without damaging the fragile display cables or cracking the glass on reassembly. We've done hundreds.

Charging ports

Board-level charging port repair on both Lightning and USB-C iPads. This is the specialism most repair shops won't touch — and the one other shops send us as trade work.

iPad charging port repair — a real specialism

iPad charging ports — both Lightning and the newer USB-C connectors — are one of the most common things to fail on an iPad. Bent pins from a stressed cable, liquid damage, or simply wear over years of use. The connector itself is soldered directly to the logic board, so replacing it is board-level micro-soldering work — not a part swap.

Most repair shops turn this work away because they don't have the micro-soldering equipment, the experience, or the margin to justify the bench time. We've built it up as a specialism over years. As far as we know, we are the only repair workshop in the Southport, Formby, Ormskirk, Burscough, Preston and Liverpool fringe area offering board-level iPad charging port repair. Other shops send this work to us as trade.

If your iPad won't charge, charges intermittently, only charges at a specific angle, or only with a specific cable — that's almost always a charging port problem, and it's almost always fixable. Get in touch and we'll let you know.

Board-level diagnosis

Sometimes an iPad won't power on, won't charge, or behaves erratically and the cause isn't an obvious component. That's where board-level diagnosis comes in — tracing faults on the logic board itself to identify what needs repair or replacement.

We handle board-level diagnosis and repair on iPads as part of our standard service. For iPhone 12 and newer we refer board-level work out to Level 3 specialists (different economics, different board construction), but iPads we cover in-house.
